Searching around for an image for a blog post is one of the most
frustrating procedures of blogging. It could take hours to find that
perfect image. These are hours, minutes, and seconds that most of us
would rather not waste. Normally, one might head to Google Image
Search, but there can be legal issues to using it. Instead, why not try
out Flickr image search tool Compfight.

Simply Box is
a browser extension that helps you organize and share things that you
find on the web. Simply Box is a little different than your typical
social bookmarking service because instead of saving and sharing links
you can save and share screen captures. The Simply Box browser
extension allows you to take a screen capture of a webpage or part of a
page, save it, share it, or file it in a “box.” The boxes of Simply Box
appear at the bottom of your browser. Users can drag their findings
into a box. I encourage you to watch the demonstration video to see the service in action.

Simply Box
does essentially the same things as most social bookmarking services
and web research organizer. For students that process information
better when it is visualized or put in graphic organisers the box
concept may help them more than a bookmarking service.

Simply Box also maintains a link to the source website helping students to acknowledge where they found the information.  Groups of students can share the researching by being invited to look at the research box.

This resource is well worth a look.

Sample output from Face sketch Face sketch Is a great way to look at the proportions of faces on a whiteboard in an art lesson. It is also another really good for making some cartoon face which you can animate in CrazyTalk.

monoface.jpgMonoFace. This goofy time killer might take awhile to load, but it’s worth the wait if you enjoy doodling with people’s faces. Simply click on the eyes, nose, mouth, and heads to change those elements into 759,375 combinations. There’s also an image gallery of collected favorites and a “shuffle face” mode for random digital Gurning.

It’s a Flash-based application that allows you to mix and match various facial features from a number of real-life people to make interesting and sometimes hilarious results. The blending between the various features is fantastic, with only the occasional face that ends up looking like a real cut-and-paste job. The rest look either hilarious or slightly unsettling! (quoted from Tim Rylands Blog )

picasso-head.jpg Mr Picasso Head enables you to create simple picasso styled portraits which can then be animated in CrazyTalk.

potato-head.jpg Potato Head is a digital vertsion of the old children’sgame with the same name. Good to use with young children and then animate in CrazyTalk.

Wordle – create word clouds for free…..

February 27th, 2009 · No Comments · Uncategorized

Wordle is a toy for generating “word clouds” from text that you provide. The clouds give greater prominence to words that appear more frequently in the source text. You can tweak your clouds with different fonts, layouts, and color schemes. The images you create with Wordle are yours to use however you like. You can print them out, or save them to the Wordle gallery to share with your friends.

Here is a sample of one created from the first scene of Oliver Twist:
